Pharmacology and Therapeutics as subject acts as a foundation stone on which entire clinical empire is based. The primary academic objective of the department is to educate undergraduate medical students of third year MBBS and regarding fundamental knowledge of drugs and train them in rational use of drugs. The department has quality material and human capacities that would help out accomplishing its tasks. A wide range of methods like lectures, small group discussions and interactive sessions are used for teaching. The department along with a team of qualified faculty members, houses a well- equipped laboratory with experimental devices to teach experimental pharmacology.
There are spacious and well-resourced lecture halls and tutorial rooms to carry out academic activities. The core curriculum and syllabus approved by PMDC and HEC is followed to provide quality pre-clinical and clinical education in the discipline of Pharmacology & Therapeutics. The department is proud of its stature in the faculty of FMC.
We are delivering Pharmacology in an integrated curriculum horizontally as well as vertically. Our main focus of Pharmacology curriculum is on therapeutics as an understanding of principles of action of drugs but we also focus on other aspects of Pharmacology such as complementary and alternative medicine, patients counselling clinical trials and finer details of prescription writing. Our department actively conducts research projects and co-ordinate & collaborates in research activities with other departments. Now, we have started post-graduate (M.Phil.) programme under the SZABMU. In this domain we aim to provide students the scientific background and clinical skills required in the modern era of medicine. Hence we are focusing on research –based activities among faculty members and students.
