The department of Forensic medicine and toxicology, FMC strives to foster excellence in undergraduate MBBS students inprinciples of medicolegal knowledge, medical ethics and professionalism for the purpose of civil and criminal law. We teachmedicolegal cases including autopsy, sexual assault, medicolegal injuries, professional negligence, jurisprudence, forensicpsychiatry and toxicology. Teaching hours and practical sessions are according to the recommendation of PMDC and Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University. The department uses various methods as large group interactive sessions, case based learning sessions, problem based learning, short group discussions and for practical orientation of students visits are also arranged to Accident and Emergency department and Mortuary of PIMS Hospital, Islamabad where students learn and observe the application of the principles of forensic medicine in real time and first hand.
The department of Forensic Medicine comprises of well- equipped lab and a well-organized museum having models, instruments and other exhibits like X-ray of medicolegal nature, specimens of poisons, weapons of assault, microscopes, ultraviolet lamp, human skeleton and separate bones with the facility of multimedia for better teaching of future graduates. The department is vibrant and has actively involved in workshops and conferences. The students are encouraged and guided to be a part of conferences and present research oriented papers.
