Editorial Correspondence

Articles and all editorial correspondence should be sent to:
Editor, JFMC C/O Federal Medical College, Hanna Road, G-8, Islamabad.

Submission Requirements
  • An article submitted to JFMC must not be previously submitted to any other journal
  • Must not be published in part or total elsewhere
  • Authors must sign an agreement to give copyright to the publishers
  • Authors must assist editors in final proof reading before publication
  • Authors' names, affiliations or contact details should not be mentioned in the main manuscript
  • Double-blind review process - authors' details are not shared with reviewers
Clinical Trials: It is mandatory for RCTs to be registered prospectively and have a TRIAL NUMBER.

Types of Articles Accepted

The journal will accept the following types of submissions:

  • Guest Editorials - Important subjects of current interest
  • Original Articles - Research studies
  • Review Articles - Comprehensive reviews
  • Case Reports - Clinical case studies
  • Clinical Updates - Current clinical practices
  • Short Communications - Brief research reports
  • Book Reviews - Academic book evaluations
  • Case Studies - Detailed case analyses
  • Clinical Notes - Clinical observations
  • CME - Continuing Medical Education
  • Obituaries - Memorial articles
  • Letters to the Editor - Academic correspondence
Note: Authors can suggest two reviewers at the time of submission who may be contacted by the editor if required.

Manuscript Format

General Requirements
  • Manuscripts must be typed in double spacing on A-4 paper (8.2in x 11.70in)
  • One-inch margin on both sides
  • Must include supervisor/consultant names from primary institute
Word Count Requirements
Quantitative Studies
  • Word Count: 2,500 - 3,000 words
  • References: 20-25 minimum
  • Tables/Figures: 3-5 maximum
Qualitative Studies
  • Word Count: 3,000 - 3,500 words
  • References: 20-30 minimum
  • Tables/Figures: 3-5 maximum
Manuscript Components

  • Complete title and short title
  • Author names and departments
  • Institution(s) where work was performed
  • Author affiliations and subject specialty
  • Contact details (phone, email)
  • Short running title for header

Should summarize the purpose and rationale for the study.

  • Maximum: 400 words
  • Clear statement of objectives
  • Brief literature background
  • Study rationale

Should include exact method or observation of experiment.

  • Study design, place and duration
  • Sample size and sampling technique
  • Inclusion and exclusion criteria
  • Data collection and analysis procedure
  • Patient demographics (age, sex with mean ± SD)
  • Statistical methods and software used
  • Ethics Committee/IRB approval number with date
  • Apparatus manufacturer details in parenthesis
  • Drug generic names, doses, and routes

  • Present in text, tables, and illustrations
  • Do not repeat table contents in text
  • Reference table numbers instead
  • Use sub-headings for long articles
  • Supplementary materials can go in appendix

  • Emphasize present findings
  • Compare with other work in the field
  • Do not repeat detailed data
  • State if hypothesis is true, false, or inconclusive
  • Mention new information added to literature
  • Discuss clinical significance

Abstract Guidelines

Structured Abstracts

Word Count: 250 words

For: Meta-analysis, original articles, research articles & systematic reviews

Structure:
  1. Objective
  2. Methodology
  3. Results
  4. Conclusion
Note: Write clinical trial number after abstract for RCTs
Unstructured Abstracts

Word Count: 150 words

For: Case reports & series, narrative reviews, short communications & special communications

Requirements:
  • Follow logical sequence
  • Concise and clear
  • Cover all main points
  • No references in abstract

References Style

Reference Limits
  • Original Article: Maximum 25
  • Case Report: Maximum 10
  • Reviews: Maximum 40
Recent References: 50% of references should be from the last 5 years
Style Requirements
  • Style: Vancouver style as per ICMJE guidelines
  • Format: Superscript in text
  • Journal Names: Abbreviated according to Index Medicus
  • DOI: Add DOI numbers where available

Tables and Figures

General Requirements
  • Maximum: 5 figures/tables allowed
  • Should be embedded in manuscript, not supplied separately
  • Figures should be 300 DPI resolution
  • Charts in PowerPoint (editable) high resolution format
  • High-quality illustrations of paramount importance
Tables
  • Numbered with Roman numerals
  • Headings placed above tables
  • Left justified
  • Include legends and footnotes
Figures
  • Numbered with Arabic numerals
  • Headings placed below figures
  • Left justified
  • Internal scale markers for photomicrographs
Image Quality: Figures of inferior quality will be returned for correction or replacement.

Special Article Types

Short Communication
  • Word Count: Max 2,500 words (intro to references)
  • Total: Max 3,000 words
  • Abstract: Structured, max 150 words
  • Keywords: Max 5
  • Tables/Figures: Max 3
Case Report
  • Word Count: Max 1,200 words
  • References: Max 10
  • Tables/Figures: 2 tables or 1 figure
  • Content: Genuinely new information
Letter to Editor
  • Constructive commentary on published articles
  • Scientific letters reporting cases/outbreaks
  • Original research communications
  • Editor reserves right to shorten/edit

Ethics and Standards

Authorship (ICMJE Criteria)
  1. Substantial contributions to conception/design or data acquisition/analysis
  2. Drafting or critically revising for intellectual content
  3. Final approval of version to be published
  4. Agreement to be accountable for all work aspects
Note: Authors must meet ALL four criteria. Addition/deletion after submission not permitted.
Required Declarations
  • Conflict of Interest: All authors must declare
  • Acknowledgements: Contributors not meeting authorship criteria
  • Key Words: Max 10, use MeSH terms
  • Disclaimer: Conference presentations, thesis parts
